My name is Gérard Métrailler. I moved to Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) in November 2006 to work for Corel Corporation as the Sr. Director of Product Management, Graphics, responsible for CorelDRAW, Corel DESIGNER, the CorelDRAW Graphics Engine SDK
as well as a few other products. The global responsibility of my job
description means I travel regularly, and the Product Management aspect
means that I spend a lot of time talking to customers, partners and
press, as well as almost all the Internal teams at Corel, while keeping
an eye on the technology evolution and how it can benefit our
customers. And as I am writing about my employer, please note that all
the postings I'll make on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent
Corel’s positions, products, strategies or opinions.
Why yet another blog on the interweb? I want to use this blog as a way to share ideas, thoughts and things that are happening in the world of the CorelDRAW based products and the wonderful world of Graphics in general. The content of this blog will shape-up depending on what is happening in the community. For non-CorelDRAW / non-Graphics related topics, you can also check out my other blog under http://blog.metrailler.net.
I really enjoy my job in product management and speak English, French
and German… my latest crazy idea: Learning Japanese… I am making (very)
slow progress with that. Having grown-up in Switzerland, I’ve worked
and traveled for many IT companies around the world, ranging from
groupware and graphics software (I worked for Micrografx for 4 years) to web services (it wasn’t called Web
2.0 back then), peer-to-peer and mobile computing. In 2003, I moved to
the UK to work for Corel and lived there for just under four years.
Since then, I’ve moved to Canada. I am passionate about technology and
customer-driven solutions, trying to combine my education in computer
science and business, management and marketing with my Swiss nature…
sometimes this can be quite scary :)
That’s it for now… enjoy this blog and feel free to contact me if
you have any questions or comments by sending me a private message.
All my best!
Gérard
