    Does it work? Konica-Minolta 5570

    Hi,

We're looking to purchase a new color laser printer and use CorelDRAW X3 exclusively. A Dell 3110cn (basically the same as the Xerox 6180) we recently purchased turned out to be a problem because it wouldn't print in Landscape from any Corel programs. Landscape worked fine from everything EXCEPT Corel programs...

So, now we've narrowed it down to the Konica-Minolta 5570, 5450, or 5550 and wondered if anyone has experience with them?

Or -- do you have another model you recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

    -Stephen

I have the same problem with the Dell 5110cn.  The only solution I found was to use the PPD  (PostScript Printer Description) setting for the printer (check box below the properties button in the print window).  Then, the properties button takes you to the generic driver settings which are the same as the regular driver, just not as user friendly.  With the 5110 I had to play around with the settings a little to figure out what everything did.  It works, even if it a bit of a pain.

As a side note, this is new in X3, I don't have this problem with the older versions of draw.  I spoke to Corel support about it and submitted a bug report, but to my knowledge none of the patches fixed this yet.

Thanks for your reply -- I guess we'll just have to chance it and try out the 5570!

We wanted to try the PPD option on the last Dell we returned, but Dell said they didn't have a PPD file for it. Seems ludicrous, but it wasn't on the CD or website that I could find...

    Thanks again!

Do you know if this has been fixed yet?

Not sure about the Konica Minolta, but I have the Xerox 6180 mentioned above & it prints beautifully in CorelDraw.

Your bests results on any printer is to use the postscript printer driver not the PCL driver. CorelDraw may require you to use the postscript printer description file (PPD) to print accurately. Do a search in the CorelDraw help file on  "postscript printer description" or "PPD".

To set up PPD in CorelDraw X3 go to File> Print > General tab and check the box "Use PPD"

You may have to locate the file for CorelDraw.  This file will usually have your printer model number in the name & will end in the file extension ".PPD"

If you can't locate the file,  in Windows 2000 go to   "Start" > Settings > Printers   single Click on your printer to high lite it. Go to File > Server Properties > Driver tab

High lite your printer in the box & click the "Properties"  button

Scroll down the list box til you find the file ending in .PPD.  Notice the path field above the list box, it will tell you where to find the file or use windows explorer to search for the file name on your hard drive.

Once you have set up PPD,  your postscript printer should print accurately. You may have to tweak a few settings in the printer driver.
