    Vertical Text?

I'm trying to create vertical text with X3. I create a paragraph text box, put anything in it or leave it empty, edit the text, right click it and select Format Text, go to the Paragraph tab and the bottom Text orientation portion is greyed out. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, mcb

Try using the text tool to create text directly on your page.  Then, use the pick tool and rotate the desired amount.

Mike, what exactly do you want to have in a vertical orientaion? Are you sure that you need to use paragraph text? Will Artistic text work?

Either kind of text is fine, but since it will be like a notebook binder artistic would be my first choice. I'm really kind of interested in why I check help and it recommends something that isn't possible. But we must all work around things some times. Thanks.

Hmmm.........well if it doesn't matter, why don't you make your life simpler and just use Artistic text. Letter, enter, letter, enter, letter, enter, etc. etc. Click the center align icon on your Upper Property Bar and you'll be done. Easy Cheesy.

    Re: Vertical Text?

The vertical text thing for paragraph text is really for using things
like Chinese characters. To do what you want, Artistic text on a path is
your best bet (or the type a letter, enter, type a letter, enter... method).

Create a vertical line. Create your text. With the text selected, choose
Text/Fit Text to path and use the tip of the arrow to point to your
line. Space the letters out a bit if you want.
Open the Character Formatting docker. With all your letters selected
with the TEXT tool, type 90degrees into the Character Shift/ Angle field
of the docker. Adjust spacing as needed.
Now select the just the line in the Object manager (Ctrl+click) and give
it no outline and no fill so it doesn't show up in the final product.

    Hope that helps.
