    Distribute Spacing by specific amount

    hiya... is there a way to distribute spacing vertically or horizontally between a number of objects by a specific amount? i am doing a label and need to make sure they are all spaced evenly but also by a certain amount for consistency... eg. 5mm between each object... cheers.

    Hi BDD,

    The Shaping plugin allows this quite easily. Check the distribute spacing area on the top of the plugin. If you're document is working in MM or inches, just type in the value you want for the space between the objects.

    I downloaded the Shaping plug-in videos, it seems really amazing. But, please let me put some manual methods I use, maybe someone finds something useful in it. Even if they are not the answers BDD looking for.

    CASE A

    If it is just one label and its duplicates, you can use the 'Transformations' Docker;

    1. Before making any duplicates, select the label
    2. Open the 'Transformations' Docker
    3. Click the 'Position' tab
    4. Check the 'Relative Position' option
    5. Check a direction box
    6. In the 'H:' or 'V:' boxes, add your "certain amount" of spacing to the already appeared number there (ignore the minus sign if it's there)
    7. Click 'Apply To Duplicates', repeat… (then you can select many to duplicate more than one per click)

    CASE B

    If you have deferent labels but same size, or as in CASE A, but after duplicating;

    1. Draw a rectangle (or any object)
    2. Using the 'Property Bar', Make its width =

    ((Label Width + Spacing) * Number of Labels) – Spacing

         Insert these numbers with parenthesis and Corel will calculates

    1. Align the first label to the left of that rectangle, and the last to the right
    2. Throw the rest in between
    3. Distribute spacing horizontally

    NOTES

           I.      Consider using 'Ctrl + D'

         II.      Consider using the 'Nudge Offset' and the keyboard arrows

      III.      Consider using 'Symbols' or 'Clones' to easily edit your duplicates and save memory

    You could always just snap one object to another and then with the nudge distance set to, say 5mm, hit the nudge key and bingo!

    Another option, create a spacing object (i.e. 5mm rectangle) and snap to the left and right side of the rectangle.

    Re: Distribute Spacing by specific amount

    okay... this option worked great for me for when i am using objects... but i am working on something at the moment and i have blocks of paragraph text and normal text objects... the paragraph text is okay cos i can click on the edge of the box and then it snaps at the edge.... but when i do the normal text i need to zoom right up to know that i am clicking exactly on the edge... and i dont want to have to convert all that text to curves to do this...

    i have found that it snaps to where the mouse clicked on the object... not neccessarily the far edge of the object...? is this a setting i have missed?

    This may not give the results you want, but, try snapping to the baseline of the text when you pick it up.  It does extend a bit past the text on either side, but at least it's consistant.

    Try this:

    Draw a rectangle the size of your label and Powerclip the text into that rectangle. Use the distribute function, then un-Powerclip each label. I use this when I'm setting up CD labels on a 6-up sheet.

    Can you not just drag out some guidlines from the ruler?
