    Laptop LCD screen problems

Hi, I've got X3 on my state-of-the-art HP laptop but now i'v got a problem: often when I'm working on a design my screen becomes (first partially) white and all the entities vanish. They are selectable but not visible and only re-appears after save-open the file. Who knows the answer?

Maybe one of your display options is set to 'Manual refresh'. And you need to disable this option to let your screen refreshes (redraws) automatically. If so,

    1.      Go to 'Tools' >> 'Options'

    2.      Under 'Workspace', select 'Display'

    3.      Uncheck the 'Manual refresh' option

    Answer

Pressing CTRL+W forces your screen to refresh. I use this often, on many different systems.

Try one of the other screen modes in under View.

OK, I have one for you:

How well does your Laptop run CorelDraw & PhotoPaint?   I am thinking of getting one instead of a new desktop?  I have a little room to upgrading my Shuttle SN25P XPC.  I could max out the Ram to 2 gigs and CPU to a AMD Athlon 64 4200+ Processor.  I know not much room there, but it is one cool little pc.

    Re: Laptop LCD screen problems

I have a three year old laptop running XP and less than 1 gig ram. X3 runs very well. It only slows on, what to me are, complicated renderings such as multilple, complicated extrusions. When I really tax it with just too much stuff it sometimes goes into application recovery. I blame myself more for that than the machine. If I were to get a new laptop running Vista, I would not consider anything less than 2 gig of memory. - Scotty

Thanks for responding but I'm sorry; this does'nt solve the problem; both manual an automatic refresh don't work all the time and within 10 minutes I'm left with a blank screen (still the elements are selectable but unvisible). It seems to be a bug of my Laptop in combination with Vista (never occurs on other PC's in the last 10 years).

    Re: Laptop LCD screen problems

I have been plagued by LCD monitor refresh issues for some time with multiple desktops. My screen doesn't go black, but when I zoom in or out, it doesn't redraw properly. Resulting in a underlay of the image at the previous zoom level. Not a big deal (easily solved by zooming out and then back in or vise-versa). Is a bit annoying at times though. Big Smile

I may have the cure you need?
CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimization tool. That removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. The best part is that it's fast! (normally taking less that a second to run) and Free. :)

Also Try the Power of Clusty.com

    http://clusty.com/search?input-form=clusty-simple&v%3Asources=webplus&query=%22refresh+issues%22%28LCD+monitor%29

    What makes Clusty unique?

Clusty is a whole new way to search the web.

Clusty queries several top search engines, combines the results, and generates an ordered list based on comparative ranking. This "metasearch" approach helps raise the best results to the top and push search engine spam to the bottom.

But what really makes Clusty unique is what happens after you search. Instead of delivering millions of search results in one long list, our search engine groups similar results together into clusters. Clusters help you see your search results by topic so you can zero in on exactly what you’re looking for or discover unexpected relationships between items. When was the last time you went to the third or fourth page of the search results? Rather than scrolling through page after page, the clusters help you find results you may have missed or that were buried deep in the ranked list.

And with a name like Clusty, it’s gotta be good!

Scroll along the page using sliders or slider arrows (and not mouse wheel, trackpoint scroll, touchpad scroll etc.). In my case objects majically reappear.
