CorelDraw X3 closes automatically after importing EPS files

    Dear All,

I'm using CorelDraw X3 and when I import EPS files that I have created in Adobe Photoshop CS2, CorelDraw closes automatically without any warning. I have check the forums, but cannot find a solution. I have tried all sorts of exports for EPS, as DCS 1.0, with or without outlines etc. but all fails. However when I worked with Photoshop CS (version8) and imported these EPS files, it worked and earlier created EPS file, I can also import. Therefore I rolled back and installed Photoshop CS (version 8) again, but this time when I create EPS files, CoreDraw still fanishes after trying to do an import.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem? It is really anoying and is causing problems for my design work, as I now need to import the files as PSD and is not nearly as nice as in EPS.

Thanks in advance for the advice

    EDWA

Re: CorelDraw X3 closes automatically after importing EPS files

that may be related to some (3rd party) windows ShellExtension triggering in File-Import dialog. If I am right then you'll be able to drag-n-drop EPS files from Explorer common folder windows into DRAW's document workspace.

And btw, why EPS? if you insert them as curves I'd strongly recommend using PDF for that. If EPS are to be in 'placed' state then probably some reinstall will help.

Also, please upload (zipped) some of smaller EPS files here (or on any free web storage such as sendspace.com yousendit.com etc)

I will try the drag-n-drop. Do not know how the ShellExtension file import dialog works, no idea.

I do use EPS, as they are freestanding and give good printing result, I have not tried PDF, because when I import PDF, I always get it with a white background and not freestanding, or do I do somthing wrong? I will also check this with more importing options. Thanks already for the advise.

    Regards,

    Edo.

    1. shell extension is a term that means anything that processes files in explorer-like windows (File-Open, File-Import) invisibly in the background. It *may* sometimes spoil the main application, however correctly working in native Explorer folders

    2. actually PDF is usually the best choice and it's absolutely WYSIWYG - if there's a white pad after import then it is present in the source file.

Re: CorelDraw X3 closes automatically after importing EPS files

    Hi,

Drag and drop does work. Thanks. So I will not use anymore the import dialog. I have tried to save a freestanding image from Photoshop in PDF format (prepress quality), but when I import that PDF, even as vector, it shows a white background behind it. Do not know what I do wrong, as I think that all settings are well. Perhaps you have a tip or hint?

Anyhow, importing EPS does work now.

    Thanks a million,

Re: CorelDraw X3 closes automatically after importing EPS files

I am using CorelDraw 10 and another machine CorelDraw 12,  Will be upgrading to X3 and have been reading problems with this in the Forums.  My experience is simular in both of these versions also.  Automatically vanishes when import any file type, export any file type also.  This is ion CorelDraw amd PhotoPaint.

The only way I get around it is to open program from template and save as XXX file name or Open New Page and save first.  Then and only then will it work right.  I would like to know what causes this also, especially if I am going to upgrade.  It never did it before for years and all of a sudden here it is!

If anybody, finds out.......let us know.........

Thanks.......As I am a new user to this forum.
