Re: Wilcom DecoStudio in Corel eStore

I must correct my previous comment on the 30-day money back guarantee that is offered on the Corel eStore in North America:

The 30-day money back guarantee is currently not available for DecoStudio e1 purchase. I will update this post as soon as there is a change to this!

All policies are described on the eStore pages itself and are applicable as posted there!

I apologize if my previous post created any confusion.

    Best regards,
    Klaus.

You've all heard that you can find anything on the web?   Well, that's anything Except Wilcom Fonts.

I have searched the entire Wilcom web site, at least 10 of their dealer web sites, the Corel site, Google and not One page with fonts and prices listed.   So I reverted to using my 1950 telephone (yuk!) and called Wilcom USA and what did I get, but voice mail.

If it is impossible to find a simple answer, I am beginning to believe it will be nearly impossible to get solutions to the hundreds of technical questions I have regarding DecoStudio

Over a week and NO reply!

It appears there is more activity on the non-Corel product forum for Drawings.....  maybe not one else has purchased DecoStudio except me?

I have it also.  Makes me wonder just who is providing the support.

Where are you finding anything related to Deco?

Other than the included fonts, can additional font be purchased?

    Ken,

It appears your question is too difficult for someone to address?

I know 2 days is not very long, but I posed the same question on May 22nd.

Maybe Wilcom does not want to sell any fonts?

    Pete:

Can I make a suggestion? (I don't have DecoStudio, but I have other embroidery software and am familiar with others, also.)

Why not make your text in Draw, then convert the text to curves. Once that is done, bring it into DecoStudio and apply the appropiate stitch (Satin or Stihl, etc.) This way, you have the font that you need, without having to purchase a digitized font for use. This works well for those seldom used fonts that you may need every once in a blue moon.

    Just a two cent opinion.

    Hugh,

    Two reasons:

1 Because I am looking for Monogram fonts and this appeared to be a simple question "where/how do I purcahse fonts?"

    and

2: to test if this forum is any more or less an asset than the old Drawings discussion groups was.

So far, it's proven to be less simple as no-one in the Wilcom/Corel world either knows the answer or my secret decoder ring is not working?

ps: I've already  converted several fonts to curves and DecoStudio then messes up the digitizing (see prior posts) causing more work rather than less.

Yes, I have the same problem with true type fonts, which like you, is why I asked about the additonal Wilcom fonts.

Deco seems to be a very good program, but the training and support seem to be lacking.  I have run into other issues as well.  For instance, and this is a simplification....  trying to make interlocking rings, like the olympic rings.  I delete the overlapping sections, and it drives the software, and me, nuts.  It takes a god bit of editing to make it look decent.

Re: DecoStudio and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4

    Ken,

It appears that you and I are the only 2 on this fourm that have had any difficulty with Deco (or maybe the only 2 that have purchased it?).   I am beginning to feel like I felt when I bought Drawings.      My question started with "why does the software stitch some letters horizontally and others vertically?"   I kind of figured this one out by myself with NO help from any guru at Wilcom or Corel.

So, after fixing my immediate problem, I felt I would back down to a much simpler question "where can I purchase other Wilcom fonts" and what do I get.....   a Telephone Number (twice)!        A 1950's solution in the 21st century!

You see, I already called the Wilcom USA number and got exactly what I detest.... Voice Mail.   So I left a message about posting my inquiry on the CorelDraw Forum, and 10 minutes after I posted the question "where can I purchase other Wilcom fonts", I got a call BACK fro Wilcom (and I didn't even leave my number), with some person who NOW wanted me to repeat the entire story.   I told him to go on the CorelForum and READ it.

And as far as the second solution I have been given .... "or you can join one of the various communities out there such as EmbroideryStartup.com."   WHY in the world do I need to go to someone elses community to find THIS SIMPLE answer when I am ON the Corel Forum to start with?

If I can NOT get an answer to this Simple question on THIS Forum, I guess I will stop wasting my time visiting it, just like I stopped visiting the Drawings Forum several years ago!

     Hello:)

Some people actually create custom Wilcom Fonts ( Im one of them:)

As you might discover, there's lots you can find on the internet..if you find I-CLIQQ embroidery software, the advent of that might be interesting too.

Whats it youre wanting to know, regarding fonts though??perhaps I can assist you.

Re: DecoStudio and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4

     Hello:)

There is actually a distinct difference in the quality of a predigitized system font, and what you may know as TTF or automatic conversion to stitches. There is a level of the market that will accept questionable outputs, and also get wowed by the results..Then there are the actual quality conscious embroiderers that tend to veer away from conversions for many reasons. This is not to say that some conversions will not work, or the procedures are useless, but like many other auto processes, they do have a place in the scheme of design processes.

You're right..the auto stuff is cool for one off or seldom used stuff..

I create custom wilcom fonts (.ESA files) on request ,and some other users also offer such services as time permits.

Have you heard of I-CLIQQ embroidery software?? Might be cool to keep an eye on that...all new software interests me really..I've been a mainline digitizer for many years, and seen lots of stuff..but thats the fun of embroidery..tomorrow always presents something new:)

As mentioned earlier Wilcom DecoStudio will be updated with a version that includes and integrates CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4.

If you want to know more about when and what (else) happens regarding Wilcom Em´broidery products and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite you might want to take a closer look at this web site: www.wilcomdiscovery.com

A few more details you can also read in Gérard's blog post.

    Best regards,
    Klaus.
