    Graphics Suite 4 and publishing

Does anybody know if Corel Draw Graphics Suite 4 can be used instead of Adobe CS2/3 for producing and publishing a magazine?

I am in the process of doing this and need a graphics package but do not know which is more suitable.

    Yes it can.

For magazine length publications you should be looking for something beyond CD GS X4 or A CS3.  Corel makes a product called Ventura which is designed for longer documents.

Did you mean 4 or X4? There's a BIG difference, LOL.
I don't know anything about CS2/3, but I can tell you that version 4
won't do what you want - at least without making you crazy. X4 MAY do
what you want. There are folks who use it that way and are happy. There
are others who will tell you that you need a publishing program like
Ventura (Quark, In-Design). It mostly depends on how picky you are about
font handling such as ligatures(CDGS doesn't do it), and how dependent
you'll be on styles (which may or may not meet your needs in CDGS).
If you go with CDGS X4, you'll want to do iterative saves (save often
with a new name each time). Frankly I'd recommend that with any other
software as well. You don't want to get to page 34 and suddenly lose all
    your work.
I'm sure there are others who will chime in here.
    Have fun!

While it is technically possible and we know that some people use CorelDRAW to create monthly magazines (there is a sports magazine in Greece done every month with CorelDRAW),  the use of a dedicated Desktop Publishing software for the layout and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 for the graphics is certainly a better option. But when it comes to the question if it can be done, yes. One example: the 450+ pages full color digital content manual that comes in the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 boxes is actually made with CorelDRAW.

Yes. I personally have worked on books in CorelDraw. It is a bit difficult for TOC, Indexes & mainly page numbering  for books in CorelDraw. I  use macros that I have written using VBA in Corel like converting paragraph text on all pages (whether the frames are linked or separate) in desired columns or the ready to use "page numbering macro" that ships with CDGS. I also extensively use the Find & Replace feature. I have no hassels in using CDGS for books. In fact presently I am working on a 1200 page Two Colour book & have completed a book with almost 175 pages in two languages.
