Coreldraw X3 crashes on start up

Hi, I am a tech who would appreciate any suggestions on getting Coreldraw X3 to run on a Vista notebook.  While loading an existing file, or creating a new one, I get a message like "Coreldraw has become unstable" and then a bug reporting dialogue comes up.  I have tried reinstalling with all other programs turned off.  I've tried service packs. Nothing seems to help.  I assume that there is enough RAM because I am told that this program ran fine in the past.  (Apparently the machine was a victim of spyware, and after it's subsequent removal, Coreldraw wouldn't run.)  Please help me because I have no more hair left to pull out!!

Two things I would recommend you try... first, keep the F8 key pressed while loading CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT. This will reset the workspaces in case they got corrupted by your malware. The other option is to do a Repair from the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite installer (in the Control Panel > Programs and Features I believe on Vista). You might need the original CD and you might also need to re-apply the service packs.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I tried F8 and repair option and neither one worked.  The program was installed with administrator privelages, and the install appears successful.  I have updated the video driver.  I'm now wondering if Coreldraw X3 is really compatible with Vista.  Does Coreldraw have live tech support for these kinds of issues?

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 is "Certified for Windows Vista" when Service Pack 2 is installed (version 13.0.0.739). This means that the compatibility for Windows Vista has been tested by an independent company under contract from Microsoft. You mention you installed new video drivers. Have you tried to reduce the acceleration of the video card?

All the details about the technical support team are available under http://www.corel.com/contactus.

Thanks, Gerard, for your help.  I will try this tonight when I have the machine back.

To be clear, the program opens to the project selector screen, but when I try to open a file or new file, it hangs.  I don't know how to turn done the acceleration, but I tried "best performance" option in advanced system settings in control panel, and it did not help.

     Any suggestions?

I got it to work.  It may have been bad pscript5.dll file that I had to replace to get the print spooler to work properly.  Anyway, it seems to work ok now.

    Thanks for your help!

Re: Coreldraw X3 crashes on start up

I, too, am having problems with CorelDraw X3.  Have applied all service packs.  Have done a repair.  The system is a Vista system.  Immediately upon CDX3 startup, get a "Runtime error!" with the explanation of "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unuseal way".  This is the second time that I have had problems in starting CorelDraw X3.  The last time I had to TOTALLY remove X3 from the system and reload it.  CDX3 on the XP system offers no problems.   Corel PhotoPaint X3 starts just fine.  The F8 trick does not work.  Have not tried to start CDX3 in SAFE mode.  Any suggestions?
