Wouldn´t it be a good idea to make one program of Designer and Draw?

There are many functions in Draw that should be very good to have in Designer too and I believe that the Draw user could benefit from using some of the special functions in Designer; like Enhanced Line Types and Drawing Planes. 

To me it seems that the development of the Draw program is much higher than with Designer. There has been two new versions of Draw since version 12 of Designer. You also get much more things when you buy Draw such as cliparts and fonts. There are also a lot of tutorials, books and things like that for Draw but not for Designer.

I agree. As Designer and Draw in principal use the same graphics kernel, it should not be a great effort to get the X4 kernel in TD 12 too: TD X4.

Although X4 is great, many of the extras of TD 12 are such that I continue to use TD 12 for line drawing work (ships plans).

More then a year ago I already submitted a list of TD 12 features for X (then 3) and X features for TD (X3 to come). The list can be found buried somewhere in the Technical Designer 12 thread in cnews,corel.com - c.Designer.

It boils down somewhat to give X4 (X5) the dockers of TD and TD X4 the property bar of X4.

That's funny i just made a very similar post to this one. Why are they two programs? I think CorelDRAW would benefit by the few tools that exist in DESIGNER that aren't in DRAW especially the B-LINE, Enhanced Outlines and Planes as you've mentioned. Its so close might as well combine them and have designer layout as a workspace instead of two "different"  programs.

I already know that Corel bought Micrografx since I been working with Designer a long time.

The meaning with this question was to get a discussion since I think that both programs have many good things and in order to compete with Adobe Illustrator it would be better if all the good things in both these programs could be put together..

Another thing is that since the release of Corel Designer 12 there has been 3 releases of Draw which to me looks like they focus more on that program.

I work with the textile industry and I can see that there are a couple of functions in Draw that I want to use in Designer or vice versa.

I have no problems with making CorelDRAW for example even better than it is today. In my own opinion, for my diverse needs, CorelDRAW outplay Illustrator any day in the week. I like and prefer CorelDRAW. Someone else will might say differently.

When it comes to competing with Adobe Illustrator, I think that its not up to only quality of programs, as it is to advertising the products. So even if I personally think CorelDRAW is better than Adobe Illustrator, I think that without better advertising Corels products, it doesnt matter if Corel merge CorelDRAW and Designer. But I wouldnt be suprised if Designer and CorelDRAW will merge someday. But probably with the name CorelDRAW designer Graphic Suite? Just because CorelDRAW seem to be a stronger name in the business than Designer. Said without any surveys confirming it

You're right corel's marketing is weak. Their website needs to be slick and free and its corporate and boring. (though its a little better lately) I had to go around town today and i visited Staples(Business Depot), Future Shop and Best Buy and not one place has a single copy of X4 (Strange). Probably because the demand isn't there.

I also agree with you that corel is does 80% of things better than adobe's software but i never understood why they don't comb through the competition and really out do them 110% (beat them and go beyond). I know that vector capital's strategy changed and they no longer want to compete directly with adobe (at least this is what i read) but i think if this is true its a big mistake and it will cost them even more maket share and for sure market share growth.

PP need to get back into the ring. CD is already mostly better than Ai but PP needs some LOVE.

Although this has little to do with the original thread, I couldn't resist agreeing with the all of above comments.

Maybe Corel just doesn't have the money to really compete with Adobe. Maybe Corel has spread itself too thin with too many products in too many different categories. I'm not sure how important CorelDRAW is to Corel. If it is important, I wish they would decide to issue a really sigificant next version of both DRAW and PP, and then really promote them. Maybe offer lite and full versions with Designer, Knockout etc incorporated.

I suggest a survey be developed for this site to solicit ideas for product image improvement, promotion, etc.
