Ok guys and gals, I have a question. For some strange reason all of my CorelDraw files are being saved as read-only. If I start a project today, I can save it, work on it some more and resave it today as many times as I need to; but when I work on it tomorrow and try to save it, a window pops up and says that the file was saved as a read-only and I need to save with a different name. I have been using CorelDraw X3 Graphics Suite since it came out and this just started about 4 months ago and is really annoying. I have looked and looked and cannot find any info on why this would be happening. Any help is greatly appreciated.

By any chance, are the saved files residing on a network drive? (Just a guess, here.)

Where are you saving the files to?

 I have saved them both network drives and different locations on my hard drive. I have made sure that my IT department has not set up any rules or special permissions that would be causing this. Also, this is the only program that I cannot save over stuff from a previous day no matter where I save it. I used to be able to save to network drives and this wasn't happening.

Two things come to mind: One, you may have something corrupted/upset in the Corel suite. Next time you start up CorelDRAW (or PP, whichever is giving you the problem), hold down the F8 key and answer 'Yes' to resetting to defaults.

If that does not help any, then Two: Check with your IT people and ask them what updates they may have done to your Windows workstation O/S in the last four months (and possibly your server where you have stored the files on the network) and see if they could back them out, one by one, until you find the guilty culprit.

 I did a complete uninstall and reinstall about 2 weeks ago and that didn't help anything. I will check with my IT guys some more. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with them, and out IT guys aren't the brightest crayons in the box. Thanks for the suggestions.

Checking the files properties show that it is not marked as read only - it only appears as such to CorelDraw! My files are saved on the local hardrive (NTFS with compression).

This is really irritating - I am now accumulating multpile versions of so many files...

I've tried the F8 tip - to no avail.

Which release of the WinXP Service Pack 3? So far, there have been two releases, both with bugs, from Microsoft. The third release of the SP3 is happening now (I believe it is due to the public on Tuesday, or was released last Tuesday). But I am willing to bet it is something simple, I just don't know what it could be, outside of, perhaps, your Anti Virus or Personal Firewall software.

 Well SP3 would certainly be on the right time frame for the start of this problem. I've tried disabling the firewall, and, with very limited testing, it looks as if things were operating normally. Then re-enabled the firewall - and CD continued to be able to save normally. I guess the next few days will show whether this has fixed the issue or not. Thanks very much for the idea of trying the firewall!

It's probably an XP SP3 issue... I've held off doing the update because I heard something about it being flawed right from the get go. You might want to research it a bit and perhaps uninstall SP3 if possible. Or on the assumption SP3 might never be right... reinstall XP as far as SP2.
