    Issues Linking Excel 2007 files

My company's drawings require an embedded and linked Excel file for production purposes.  Ever since upgrading to Office 2007, all of the embedded Excel files on existing and new drawings appear as a black box.  Though the black box is still an active link back to original file, it is visually useless.   These files are pdf'd for distrubution and the most essential part is that linked Excel file.

These issues are directly related to Office 2007.  It has affected files in X2, X3 and now X4.   These issues did not exist when I was using Office 2003.  Due to the fact that we are a large nationwide company, reverting back to Office 2003 is not an option.

I would expect that most immediate responses would be to contact Microsoft, however, MS believes the problem is a Corel issue.  I'm hoping to find people who have had similar issues and have found a solution or functional work-around.

Again, I'm using CorelDRAW X4 and Excel 2007 on a XP platform.  This is a problem on all of our company computers and is not problem related to specific hardware.  I even have these loaded on a Mac w/ XP and the problem still exists.

All I can tell you is that it is a known problem with Excel 2007 files. I
don't know if the problem is with CorelDRAW or with Excel. In the short
term, the ONLY answer is to use Excel 2003. Not the answer you wanted, but
that's the way it is right now. Corel certainly knows that it doesn't work
so if it is something within their control, I'm guessing they'll try to fix
it. But since it didn't work in X3 either, I'm guessing it might be a
    Microsoft issue.

    Hi,

Why don't you just "Paste OLE Object" and then choose "Picture (Enhanced Metafile)?  This works fine for me.

     Aliquis,

I'm not sure where you are finding "Paste OLE Object".  There is a "Paste Special" command that allows my to choose "Picture (Enhanced Metafile).  However, the enhanced metafile is just that... a vectorized table.  It's not an OLE obect.  It's essential on my end that Excel file be a Linked and Embedded Object so we can double click the spreadsheet and execute Excel.

Hopefully, I'm just a bit clueless.  Where is the "Paste OLE Object" command in X4?

    Thanks in advance,
    George

     Foster,

I totally agree with having to go back to Excel 2003... it IS the only solution at this point.  However, with over 300 employees and 10 locations in 7 different states... it's not the most practical.

We have had our IT dept contact Microsoft support and their answer is... "it's a Corel issue"

    Thanks for you time

Unfortunately it is like you said, only a vectorized table and not linked like you want it to be, this is just a solution if you know the file is not going to be edited.

I just read on the site's blog that OLE support for Excel 2007  will be enhanced with SP1.
