    Artifacts show only when printing.

I am trying to finish up a rather complicated illustration in X3, and when I print it some strange white artifacts show up.  They are not visible on-screen.  After a lot of aimless investigation I have found that at least one of them is somehow related to a fountain fill.  Problem is, there are dozens of fountain fills in the illo.  Any suggestions? I can't submit the art because it's proprietary, but I will try to isolate the offending fill and see if I can duplicate it on some generic art.

Firstly can I ask what are you printing to?

Do these artifacts show as horizontal white lines through the fill? One thing that you could try is converting the filled object/objects to bitmaps.

just printing to a b/w laserprinter.  The artifacts show as different simple polygons.  Since there are over 200 items, my first problem is locating the objects causing the artifacts.  Through trial and error I have id'd one of them.  The artifact shows up several mm away from outline of the object, like there is a "phantom" portion of it hanging out there.

Well, I finally figured out which objects were the culprits, then deleted them.  Then I created new objects that replicated the bad guys.  Everything works now.  That's not the 'solution' I was looking for, but it works for what I need this time.

Im glad youve found a solution Eric. Smile

There must have been something odd about those objects.

    Hi Eric,

I'm not sure how true is this, but I've experienced a corrupted image within Draw.
That means, the original file is ok, but when printed out, the color is funny.
After playing around with the printer with no cure, eventually the printer's technician recalled a similar case in the past regarding a corrupted image/Corel file.
So, after delete the image in Draw and re-import it, it workeds fine!
    Weird, isn't it?

    Cheers.

This conversation seems to be finished but I thought I would stick in a few suggestions for those with problems printing.

    1. Make sure there are no objects that are set as invisible, but OK to print. This has caught me out a few times.

    2. Some imports have failed for me in the past, both bitmaps and vectors from other drawings. I have found the import sometimes leaves invisible garbage on the drawing that messes up a print. I always do an undo if this happens to make sure there is nothing there, or you can double-click on the Pick Tool to select everything in the drawing, to see if there is anything there that you don't expect. Importing a second time normally comes out OK.

    3. I have found some vector objects throw lines off across the drawing when it is printed, or exported as another format. Try changing the line caps of any suspect object to rounded ends. This sometimes does the trick. Don't know why...!?

    Paul.
