    Output to PSD

    Hello guys and girls,

Have a question for you. I need to create a layered PSD file from Corel Draw. This is the required spec from the printer. Is that possible? I'm aware of the "maintain layers" option in the export dialog, but it still flattens the image. I need to have the objects still moveable and editable in photoshop. I'm not really all that knowledgable in this field as i don't deal with printing much. I'm racing a deadline to boot! Can anyone please offer me some input on this topic? Thank you so much in advance!!

    Paul

Maintain layers should retain layers on PSD export. i do it all the time with no issues. try again with maintain layers selected and make sure your objects are on separate layers in the corel file before exporting.

possible your selected and grouped everything before exporting?

    Hi Paul,

unfortunately your DeadLine is running. Otherwise I would suggest my "psdNinja"-Macro for that. But it's in the beta testing phase, and will be available soonest in the middle of october on my upcoming website. The macro has an adjustable automatic layering feature for CorelDraw, and exports even text, but keeps it editable in PS! A nice and helpful toy...

    Thanks for the replys,

I did have some issues with my objects / layers. All sorted out now. Thanks for the suggestions! It's simple when you do it right Cool

One more question that I think I already know the answer to...   Individual objects are merged per layer? They are now one 'big' object? Is that correct?

    Thanks again!

That's correct. It's like exporting to Photopaint. When exported to Photopaint the objects are rasterized to bitmaps, and all content of a single layer in Draw is merged to a single object and "bound" to his specific layer. Never confuse layers and objects in Photopaint or Photoshop: objects are the content of a layer;  you can create empty layers, but not single objects without a layer as medium.

Yes, if exporting to a bitmap. Layers in Draw/Illustrator are different than
    Layers/Objects in Photopaint/Photoshop. In Draw/Illustrator, a single layer
can have multiple independent objects. In Photopaint, each independent
object is also its own layer. Basically, Photoshop is basically the same
way... however, Photoshop and Fireworks can have Layer Groups which would be
more similar to how Draw/Illustrator do Layers.
