    size of project

hi all, i recently finished a 48-page publication.........the size of the coreldraw file is over 300mb.......i'm wonderin if that is not too large, or maybe i'm not doing something right here. although most of the pages had graphic content and pictures, i still wonder if maybe i should've compressed d pictures or something......pls help

(one can only wonder wat size i'd come up wit if i had to do a 100,150 page publication)

    Re: size of project

Nice to have someone working on books with CorelDRAW. Recently I wrote for Fosters Web magazine on the same issue. However this article does not speak about managing the size of the file but I think this would be useful for you in other manners.

Ok now about your question. You can try linking the images instead of embedding those in the file. This will reduce the size of the CorelDRAW file. But then you really need to plan the storage of the linked image files.

    All the best

    Hi Anand

Linking offers some benefits for this. Some interesting things about linking:

    • it's possible to change the placeholder's 45 DPI to a higher number (in registry)

    • links are not as "live" as I would prefer. For ex, if a linked file is removed from external folder, this is not known right away. Even after refreshing the link docker, the placeholder stays the same as before on page. It should be replaced with gray box with red exclamation through it - or something similar to indicate there is going to be a problem.

    • There's also no print preflight warning if linked images are missing.

    • You can only import one linked image at a time.

    • If image folder moves or folder name changes, each image has to be relinked one by one - crazy.

hmm... I think these issues can be addressed with a macro...

    Hi Jeff

    Thanks for sharing the information.

I personally don't use much of linking feature because of some lack of tasks as you also have mentioned. One has to be more alert if linking is used.

Can I request you to post some more details here regarding the following ?

    Hi Anand,

If a macro doesn't arrive to fill the holes, perhaps X5 will add some key publishing features in this area.

here is the reg key to change preview DPI:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\CorelDraw\13.0\CorelDRAW\Application Preferences\Bitmaps\PreviewResolution
