Needing Raster art with transparent backgound imported into Corel X3

A division of our company focus's on decals and signs out at another location than where I work. They use Corel X3 for all of their designs but want to use Photoshop CS3 to take out the background behind photos etc. before importing them into Corel. Is this possible or what is an alternative method for erasing a background behind a photo and importing it into Corel?

The previous owner of their location (who taught our employees) had outdated software that was capable of doing this but since we upgraded their software they say they can't do this anymore.. So they complain to me..  I've been told you can use Corel Photo-Paint to edit photographs is this true, is it easy?  I'm sure they haven't even tried PhotoPaint, just doing what the previous owner had showed them which was Photoshop, but now they are having problems since everything has been upgraded.

I run Adobe for all of my design since I'm on the "Design and Marketing Agency" portion of our company so I'm not sure of what to tell them.

First of call is there a way to take out the background out of a photo in Photoshop and import it into Corel without loosing image quality? If so how?

Or is there a better way to do achieve these results such as Photo Paint?
What file format do you recommend to achieve this?

    Thank you!

    Paza,

You can do what you want in either Corel PHOTO-PAINT or Adobe Photoshop and the techniques are nearly identical in either software. I personally find it easier to do in PHOTO-PAINT.

The exact method to use is somewhat dependent on the background being removed.

If you have a white box, the following tutorial gives you the instructions in PHOTO-PAINT.

If you have a more complex background there are numerous techniques.

Save the file as a PSD, CPT or TIF after editing and CorelDRAW will recognize the lack of a background.

    Hi Pazaz,

May I just chip in and just confirm what Foster said.
You can do basically the same things in both Photo-Paint and Photoshop.  They are both professional programs. PHOTO_PAINT seems to be overlooked among users who also uses Photoshop. I work professionally as an illustrator, and as such I do everything in PHOTO-PAINT an illustrator using Photoshop would do. If you have PHOTO-PAINT you and your client, shouldnt need to worry. I have worked with Photoshop but prefer PHOTO-PAINT. And in my work I also do a lot of image editing of both photographs and illustrations.

And as Foster show with his link, you can do what you/client need to be able to do. Photo-Paint is a very professional image edit program.
