    6 Characters set in Chinese

I need 6 characters set in Chinese...

I spent 3 hours trying to understand how to do this last night.

Anyone like to give me a quote on this? I have the text in Chinese now but it's a book cover in silver and white. I need this in a decent Chinese font and converted to outlines. I need it done by say Next Monday.

Begs the question... maybe some of the other language fonts should be available as a download for forum members.

Did you install (Windows) East Asian support Yani? Willy supplies a few Chinese unicode fonts which are available after that. And of you have MS-Word (maybe you need the compatibility pack from Willy as well?), Ariel Unicode should be available to you (but talk about UGLY!) and it speaks just about every language there is!

The easiest way to do it is to get it the Chinese (or any other East Asian fonts) in a MS-Word or Open Office file, copy and then paste into Corel Draw X4  (the bad news for you is that it works far better with SP-1 though!)

If making a PDF be sure to select use Unicode encoding!!! I've been bitten by that in Korean jobs.

I've done an OK job of scanning it but I still think it would look better if it were type set in a decent font.

Nar I don't want to do it, I'd rather pay someone who knows what good Chinese should look like.

I think it says... Chinese Blue & White Ceramics

(Windows) East Asian support Yani is that software that provides you the character sets in to chinese.

If I understand correctly, you need the font set to retype the few chinese words?

If so, I'll try to get the font tonight as I don't have it in my font library at the moment.

You want the exact font or anything close will do?

That font is off the cover of a book 30 years old Michael.

I'd prefer something that would be judged in Chinese as authentic  but sharp.

You don't need to do it for free Michael. In fact I'd prefer to pay a few dollars. On principle I think there are opportunities within the forum to develop wealth and I don't want to degrade those opportunities by 'expecting it for nothing'. We have enough of those kinds of expectations place on us everyday by clients. There are other bits to this job where I may need to sub out work.

Re: 6 Characters set in Chinese

    Hi Yani!

I've looked all over the chinese font sites, but unfortunately the fourth character is an obsoleted character so I couldn't find any font set that is close to the original AND contain the fourth character.

In fact, the characters you scanned from the book cover was hand written (calligraphic) so it is impossible to find the exact font either.

So, I traced and reproduced the image you scanned, which I think is the best and easiest solution. In fact the original hand writting is much more beautiful than any available font on the web.

    Cheers.

Re: 6 Characters set in Chinese

That's great thank you so much. I couldn't have done that without risking that I might have changed the meaning.

I'll send you some dollars for this. Will send a private message about that.

Just wanted to talk you publicly. It's so nice to get a CDR file and not some AI muck from the Mac that is suss at best.

Great demo of how we can use the forum to internationalise a work flow. Hope we can encourage people to do more of that.

Re: 6 Characters set in Chinese

You are welcome. It's not a problem to me at all since it's my own language Wink

As for the CDR file....I thought this is the CorelDraw forum so definitely it should be done in CorelDraw. Otherwise you would have post the problem in AI's forum instead. Smile

If you or anyone has any problem with chinese or japanese characters in the future, I'll try my best to help.

    Have a nice day.

    It looks great.

The original book where you get the characters is about antique too? No wonder the author used such a ancient caligraphy.

Re: 6 Characters set in Chinese

I didn't do the China photos and it really gets to me that they were cropped so tight. I hate stuff where verticals are out like that.

The front page is just a place holder while we build up the copy and content.

Haha...when I say it looks great, I mean the characters...the verticle lines are indeed terrible.

Gezz I hope the photographer isn't a member here. LOL

These are friends of mine Michael. Hit the contact form when you get a chance and say something nice to them. Tell them you really like the Chinese text.

Their confidence is at a 28 year low. They will think it's Christmas getting a message from Malaysia.

    It's not the photographer's fault...it's the editor.

Pardon my poor English but I don't get what that means...Embarrassed

I guess the calligraphy was written by someone else, so they've found the right man to do the job.

I heard from the news that it was snowing in Australia? Smile
