    guidelines

     HELP

A couple of weeks ago I installed X4 and I wanted to set up a series of almost equally spaced vertical guide lines

    across my workspace.

The way I attempted this was by setting the 'Duplicate distance to a figure and setting the nudge offset to .002.

I then placed my first guideline at a place on the left side of my drawing window then used "control D" to duplicate the lines at the same equal spacing across to page. After several lines I needed to adjust 2 of the next spaces.

I used the Right Arrow key to move the guide line and the line moved. BUT the numbers in the "Object position" window did not change to indicate the new position. I had to de-select the guideline and then re-select it to get a new position location.

I contacted Corel via Email but was informed that I would have to pay to receive any fix for what I feel is perhaps a different 'Preference' setting to all the other Corel Draw software that I have been using.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, please realise that I have a couple of problems I am 84 yrs old and was born in the UK. !!!

    Re: guidelines

The position in the object position not changing when nudged is a known bug.

Here is a work around (and applies to any object)

In the "X" position simply ADD ON TO THE END of the position shown something like "+2pt", eg
if the position is shown as 2.148 (in inches) simply leave the 2.148 there and then type +2pt, or of course whatever unit you would like (eg "+2" will add 2 of whatever unit it is in already, '+1/8"' will add 1/8 of an inch (yes, it knows how to divide and multiply on a strict left to right basis). Use "mm" if you need to specify millimetres, etc.)

BTW if you need those four guidelines evenly distributed, you can select all four and then use "distribute" in the align and distribute dialogue to do that.

....and here is another way that may work for you: when in the position field in the property bar, use the up or down arrows. That will give a very small update (1/100 inch here) to the position and move the guide line (or anything else) to that position.(The strange thing is that the up/down arrows in that field yield a tiny change, while in some other fields the change is ridiculously large! (for instance 5 degrees in the rotation field). >

     Hi Paul

Thanks for the response but I think I may have misled you re the problem.

I can get the guide lines or objects to move by using the Arrow Keys by the increments that I select in the "Nudge Offset" boxes but as the object moves the indication in the Object Position Boxes does not change, I then have to de-select the object or guide line and then re-select the object or guide line before the position indicator shows the the new position of the object or guide line.

I can select the object/guide line and move it using the mouse and the indication changes as the object/guideline is moving but using the arrow keys do not work The indication of the location does not change as the object/guideline moves and I have to de-select and re-select to see the new position.
