    Converting Des to CPT

Long ago, when I was new to Corel Draw..V9..I would copy and paste files from Draw To PhotoPaint because I didn't know and never bothered to find out how to do that..Convert Corel Vector to Raster or whatever PhotoPaint is..I don't like the quality of "convert to bitmap" in any version of Corel Draw or Designer..

I am still copying and pasting layers and files from Designer 12 into PhotoPaint..Now, it works in PhotoPaint but  Painter doesn't do a good job of C/P. I have to Copy/Paste .des into Photopaint, save as .psd and open in Painter. (Why is Corel using Adobe file formats to make usable files between Corel products? But..That is another question) This question is... does anyone know how I can save a layered file of Des and open it in Painter or PhotoPaint rather than Copy and Paste or use Adobe file designations?

    What is wrong with it?

Painter is not original for Corel, that is why Des is not an option.

What is wrong with .convert to bitmap? It  is a not a excellent quality image...not the best but that is a personal opinion. Someone else may have an opinion that the quality is "good" for their purposes.

OK..converting to  PhotoPaint .cpt ..I can use the 'export as" but that is the entire page. I use Designer and Draw for design. I may make, for instance, one design logo which is good but not what I want..so immediately below that, on the page but a different layer, I make a second design logo. Still not what I want..so I make a third design logo on a third layer....I now have 3 designs/3 layers on one page. I want to save all of them in that one .des file, maybe use the first two later but I need to 'color" the third in PhotoPaint or Painter. I can select that One Object on One Layer, copy and past it into Photo Paint as a single small image..If I use "export as" ..even if I turn the layers off..the image is still the size of the total. Instead of saving a specific object of say..250x250 pixels..I have an exported page of 500x1500.

This may be a good thing...being able to select one object and Copy/Paste it so cleanly into another program but is there another way to do that?

Des is not the issue. The issue is...it is not possible to save a PhotoPaint image as .RIFF/Painter  except if the file is converted to .psd. It means I have ..for one file...a copy cpt, a copy psd and a copy riff. I work on the psd because it is "more work"  to copy changes from the RIFF back to the PSD, then paste changes back into the cpt file..I just work all my changes as .psd files and ...I would rather work on .cpt and .riff files and not have the PSD in the middle..That would just be a nice thing to have..a cpt/riff compatibility.

OK...I found the answer to One Question..

To use Export ...for object on one or multiple layers...Turn off all the other layers, including the Printer on the layer palette

I haven't done much with this option yet but it worked for one layer and one object..whether it will work as well for multiple objects on multiple layers without Exporting the entire page size..I don't know .but it works on one layer one object

Turn The Visible, Active AND... Printer Off...and export as .des as .cpt

Re: Converting *.des to *.cpt / *.psd

This can be achieved much easier!

Just select the objects you want to export as a bitmap image from Corel DESIGNER.

Then use "Export..." with the "Selected only" check box marked in the export dialog.
That way the resulting bitmap will contain the selected objects only and it will be limited to the size of the selected objects (not the page size).

Make sure you don't have any layers turned off for printing as those objects will not be exported.

    Hope that helps!
    Klaus.

Re: Converting *.des to *.cpt / *.psd

    Thanks Klaus

That works and the bitmap quality has greatly improved since Draw V9. Old habits..I started doing it that way and never thought to change..

Now..I can Copy/Paste into Painter just like I did for Corel Photo Paint but the quality ..I need to look around in Painter and see what options I have to improve C/P...

Do you know of any way to convert .cpt/.des files to .riff without .psd?

    Thanks Again for your answer!
